Don't Take Our Word For It.

We’re not looking for just another project. For over three decades, our goal has been to develop lasting, meaningful relationships with individuals and families throughout Houston. To earn their trust and their recommendation to neighbors, family, friends and colleagues.

We, like many of our neighbors, had our lives changed for ever after Harvey and the release of the dams. However, we were blessed to have friends and strangers who helped in the first few weeks, giving us hope that there was a brighter future. Our luck continued when we hired Craftsmanship by John (CBJ) to rebuild our house and make it a home again.

They listened and heard what we said we were looking for. They were mindful of the cost, but also made sure that we did not “cut corners” on items that would be compromised if we took that path. John Gillette, the owner, was deeply invested in ensuring that we would have the home we wanted. We had weekly meetings at the house, with our wonderful project manager, Jackson, to review progress and talk about the next steps and any changes that we wanted, or they suggested. Teressa, the designer, gently and efficiently led us through the process of choosing everything from tiles and carpets to door handles. CBJ stayed remarkably on schedule, partly from experience and partly because of the relationships that they have developed with many of the best subcontractors over the years. CBJ kept us in the loop at all times and let us know if there were any changes. They completed the work on schedule, in fact a month earlier than we had assumed it would be done! It was also on budget, with very few Change Orders.

The quality of the work is exceptional. They come by the Craftsmanship in their name honestly! They made all the custom cabinets (of which there were many) in house. They even managed to save the glass from our old front door and mounted it in the new one.
Everyone in the crews were professional, but also invested in restoring the wreck that they were faced with and making it a home again. They noted that I am not very tall and lowered the shelves in the pantry enough that they worked for both normal and short people! We have been back in our home for 3 weeks. It is everything and more than we had hoped for.

I thoroughly and unreservedly endorse Craftsmanship by John for all your building and remodeling needs.

“We have used Craftsmanship by John for numerous remodels over the past 15 years. Some were small jobs but several were major remodels. In our most recent remodel, we took almost every wall back to the studs, moved the location of the kitchen, added a garage with space above, raised all the ceilings on the second floor and remodeled all the bathrooms. We also removed the old pool and replaced it with a new one and added a grill area.
Every time our experience was great and we were so pleased with the finished product. We highly recommend Craftsmanship by John for any remodeling needs, both big and small.”

Julie, Houston

“Just wanted to say  thanks for your managing the repair work. Appreciated your listening to our concerns and laid-back willingness to do some trade-offs in getting a few extra things done. We are happy with the results.”

JM, Heights

“I could not be happier with my home! Such a pleasure working with nice people throughout the process.

Please accept our heartfelt thanks for all you have done to help us since Harvey hit. The assistance from all at St. Martins helped us get through those first weeks of numbness and confusion as we processed (or at least started to process!) what occurred and what we needed to do. As we started looking at the next steps, we again felt comforted connecting with you, John, as you helped us look at the reconstruction process. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you.

Jody & Leigh, Houston

I know I have told you before about how much I love my kitchen. However, the past two weekends I have hosted church events in my home because MDPC has been without power. People have complimented me on my great kitchen. Hey, it’s not about me, it’s what you did! …and I say that! I wanted to let you know that I get all these grand comments about my kitchen and I wanted to share with the ones who made it possible! Thank you!!!

“Just a short note to let you know how happy we have been with Russell’s professional attitude. He came into our remodeling project with such professionalism. He was courteous and very prompt when we needed him. We are very thankful in his taking over and handling of our project.”

BF, Briar Forest

“Over the past 12 years, CBJ has done several significant remodels for me ranging from the entire house, to gutting and rebuilding an upstairs floor, to remodeling one room, to building an oversized greenhouse. I have developed so much confidence in John’s ability and integrity that we now discuss a project, he does it, and then sends me a fair bill. I highly recommend him.”

“The windows are beautiful and were worth the weather and painting delays.”

“Dear John, Just a note to thank you and Craftsmanship by John for all you did for us. I really appreciate you taking control for us while we were in London. I know the work was done well and appreciate the time and effort to get it done on time with such short notice.”

“Just wanted to express our appreciation of the efforts put in by your crew to replace the siding on our chimney. They finished up attaching the siding in the rain – it rained for 2 days straight! I’m sure if those boards had not been in place, water would have damaged the house. Tell your guys ‘thanks’ for us!”

“Just a note to compliment you on your employees who worked in our home. This was a small project, but of course important to us, and your crew brought the same qualities to the job — attention to detail, respect for their surroundings, excellent work, good humor and courtesy — that I remember from you and your crew five years ago. The job wasn’t done, until it was done just right! Thank you!”

“Thanks for the great work that Craftsmanship By John completed on my home. Everything from the paint to the woodwork looks better than new. I understand why your company has such a great reputation. Although you probably don’t need any more, please feel free to use me as referral for potential customers in our area. Be assured that the next time we need home painting or repair, we’ll call you. Thanks again.”

“I would like to compliment you and your staff on the fine work you did recently on our house. We received a quality job. Additionally, you and your employees provided excellent service. Thanks for putting forth the extra effort to ensure such a quality job and going beyond what most contractors would normally do.

Thanks also for dedicating the resources necessary to have the French doors installed prior to Easter. This past Sunday I received a phone call from a realtor that had a client interested in possibly purchasing our house due to its appearance. While we were not interested in selling, I believe this speaks well to the good job performed.

I will be glad to pass along your name to other people and may be calling you again concerning remodeling our bathrooms. For now however, we intend to enjoy the summer.”

Steve, Uptown

“During the holidays I took Sasha to her acupuncture appointment and while talking to the vet, I learned she is thinking about a bathroom renovation.  Sooo, I told her about the magic you worked in my bathroom.”

SJ, Memorial

“John and Ivan, Thanks for doing such quality work in the construction for our doors.”

“Thank you for the great job on installing our limestone mantel.  Your workers are such nice men.”

“I couldn’t be any more pleased about the garage (playroom) and French drain.  … Thanks again for a job very well done.”

Craftsmanship by John, Inc. generously donated a custom built credence table that was mounted to the wall for our church. The expert workmanship and attention to detail in matching the existing Tabernacle and Altar in style, material and color cannot be stressed enough – it is perfect!

“It looks as though it has always been there.”  Is what I hear from all of our members after it was installed.
